THERAPY, COACHING

Stefania Herrera Guzman, MA, MSc

Hi there! I am a multicultural counseling and clinical psychologist with a keen interest in expressive therapies, trauma-informed therapy, and the de-stigmatization of mental health care.

I was born in Venezuela, raised on the sunny island of Curacao, and then trained as a therapist in The Netherlands. Having lived all over the world has shaped my multicultural identity, which translates into my capacity to have cultural sensibility when working with clients.

My clinical work focuses on the treatment of mental health problems through an integrative and holistic approach- viewing clients as complex and multidimensional beings where evaluating all  areas of life (physical, mental and spiritual) is crucial in order to find the right treatment. I've worked with clients of all ages and backgrounds, providing individual counseling, relationship counseling and group therapy to address clients' needs. I have experience with behavioral, psychodynamic, person-centered approaches, and expressive therapies (art therapy, writing therapy, psychodrama and trauma-sensitive yoga). I am a certified yoga therapist, which means that I always add mindfulness based approaches to my sessions, including breathwork and meditation.

I'm a firm believer in continuous education and staying up to date with current research. I have regular supervision by a psychologist with more than 30 years of experience, and am also part of a bi-monthly InterVision group with other psychologists. I’m continuously reading books on psychological interventions, following trainings and workshops, and regularly attending professional development events.

Furthermore, my master’s thesis project focused on creating and implementing a trauma-sensitive yoga intervention for women survivors of sexual exploitation and abuse through human trafficking. The thesis outcome led to participating in conferences and publishing my work on alternative therapies for reducing PTSD and trauma healing.

Additionally, I have an undergraduate degree in Media Communications and have worked in the field of marketing, media design and education. Currently working as the marketing & communications manager at TheBridge2Hope, where I bring awareness to the issue of human trafficking and the work it does with survivors. I also provide trauma-informed interventions to participants to promote trauma healing and well-being enhancement.
